Structure before surface
Every project starts with the argument the page needs to make. Promise, proof, objection handling, action. Once that order is right, the visual design has something to serve. Starting with the visuals produces pages that look considered and convert badly.
Designing for a scanner, not a reader
Nobody reads a webpage in order. They scan for reasons to leave. That changes what design has to do: strong headings that make sense alone, short paragraphs, proof placed where doubt appears rather than collected at the bottom.
Constraints that improve the work
Contrast requirements, performance budgets and touch target sizes are not obstacles to good design. They rule out the choices that were going to cause problems anyway, and the work is usually better for it.

We design the mobile and desktop views together, because most traffic is mobile but most complex decisions get made on desktop. Both are designed properly rather than one being derived from the other.
